Omnibus 194 - September 2009

YOU WAIT FOR AGES AND THREE COME TOGETHER!

Despite starting some of the publications over two years ago, other delays in the production chains saw Malcolm Keeley having to put finishing touches to no less than three books on one day at the beginning of August!

First to hit the streets is likely to be the Museum's own new Guide Book. "Encouraged by 'Omnibus', the Museum now has a lovely selection of illustrations to draw from," said Malcolm. "The layout has been done by Steve Fermor who has handled our annual leaflet in recent years. Neither of us has a background of producing guides but instead we had clear ideas of what we wanted to see and used our imaginations. We hope we've produced something visually exciting and interesting to read."

The other two books will hopefully be out for our Wumpty Forty event on 11 October, marking the 40th anniversary of the takeover by WMPTE of the local municipal transport departments. Malcolm has contributed to Capital Transport's new series of all-colour books on buses in the 1960s with 'Colours of the West Midlands', covering the pre-PTE days. The new PTE started work at the end of the decade and Ian Allan will be publishing 'WMPTE Buses and Trolleybuses', taking the story up until the commencement of West Midlands Travel in 1986, for the first time almost entirely in colour too.
