TROJAN TASK

About three years ago a visitor approached Malcolm Keeley who was working the admission kiosk. The visitor was aware that, unfortunately, his own time was short as he was suffering from a terminal illness. Probably the only benefit of these circumstances is that you have time to get your affairs in order.

The gentleman, Mr Owen Coulby, possessed a Trojan ambulance and was concerned that it should go to a good home. Malcolm explained that the Museum did not usually collect such vehicles. Being interested in buses and battery-electrics too, the gentleman had been impressed for many years by Wythall's efforts and wished to leave us a legacy that would include ensuring the ambulance would be passed to a good home if we did not keep it ourselves.

After spending a short time with us, we are pleased to report that we have donated the ambulance on to a delighted Trojan Museum Trust who have now collected the ambulance and who intend, in due course, to restore the ambulance to its original condition.

We are delighted to have brought Mr Coulby's wishes to what we think is a sound conclusion. It reminds all of us that the grim reaper may strike at any time and that, if we own vehicles, we should be preparing a secure future for them. In this case, the gentleman did exactly the right thing. We knew the vehicle was coming and he was reassured by our commitment to ensuring its future, even though we would not keep it ourselves
