PEOPLE POWER
With the Power Hall fully open the Museum has extended its opening days for 2008 and we are open to the public every weekend from March to November plus Wednesday afternoons during May to August. The programme has the usual combination of major operating days when the site will be a hive of activity, then the other days when the facilities on offer to the public will be more limited. Nevertheless even on the non-event days we hope to provide rather more of an attraction than previously. To this end we would like to man the admission kiosk as frequently as possible rather than rely on the honesty box. Also, at least during busier times of the season and day, we would like to have the café and shop open for our visitors.
All this requires volunteers to staff the admission kiosk and the café/shop plus the need for others to be on site to keep an eye on things. In February I shall be sending out the traditional staffing form to all who very kindly helped during 2007 or have told me they are willing to help in 2008 but if that does not include you and you could help please get in contact. Event days are usually well staffed, it is the other weekends that I am particularly keen to recruit additional volunteers for the admission kiosk and café/shop. The work is usually fairly relaxed with the occasional busy period so it can be an opportunity to catch up with reading and the like - there are plenty of interesting shop stock books to browse through in the quieter periods! Our admission hours at weekends are 11am to 4pm and just 1pm to 4pm on Wednesdays.
Once again, new volunteers will welcomed with full training on the job, usually by shadowing someone else initially.
