Omnibus 165 - July 2005

KEMP & SHAW

The Leicester Transport Study Group, which is closely associated with BaMMOT, is commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the acquisition of Leicester independent Kemp & Shaw by Midland Red. This took place in July 1955, and three events are planned.

First, the Study Group is organising an exhibition of memorabilia and photographs at the Leicestershire Records Office, Wigston Magna. The exhibition will run from Monday 18 July to Friday 5 August. Further details are available from the Leicestershire Records Office on 0116-257-1080.

The second project is producing a comprehensive history of the company, which hopefully will be ready for Saturday 9 July. The cost is still to be determined but is likely to be £9.95. If anyone would like further details please send a S.A.E. to Mike Greenwood, 17 Willingham Close, Sothall, Sheffield. S20 2PD.

Finally, a Study Tour of the former Kemp & Shaw route between Leicester and Derby - which became Midland Red service X63 - has been organised for Saturday 9 July. The Tour will use the D9 and possibly also the S15 from the Roger Burdett collection.

PS - In view of the news from John Bowden (qv), this will probably be the only occasion that a BMMO D9 visits Derby Bus Station with a full load of passengers. Ed.
