OPEN DAY HELP
As has been the pattern in recent years, the Museum will be open to the public at weekends and bank holidays from Easter Sunday until the end of October, with a number of special events throughout the season. Details are listed here in Omnibus, and in the full-colour publicity leaflet that, we hope, most readers will now have seen.
Staff are required to assist with the running of these events. As last year, rather than send a staffing form to everyone, those members who have assisted with staffing the Museum on Event Days and other open days in the past will be contacted directly to ask if they are willing and able to assist again this year.
This does not mean that we would not welcome additional assistance from any member who is able to offer some of their time. If you can help with the running of the museum on any of the Event Days or by manning the admission hut on a Sunday, please get in touch with Phil Ireland in advance or just make yourself known to the people at the admission hut on the day.
Additionally this year it is planned to hold a pre-season briefing on the afternoon of Saturday 27 March, starting at 2.00pm. With a number of changes on our site and the provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act coming into force, we need to ensure all our volunteers are aware of these so they are able to assist our visitors as necessary. We will also give some tips to help those of you needing more confidence in dealing with the public. As well as the more formal ‘training’ element of this it is planned to make the afternoon a social event with videos from the early days on the Museum site and the opportunity to see and hear and talk about our plans, including the Heritage Lottery Fund bid, for the future. Refreshments will be available and Rosemary Clarke, Bromsgrove District Council’s Tourism Development Manager, has agreed to come so it won’t just be the usual people speaking. Please do come along if you will be helping to staff the Museum this season.
Please note that members who are actively involved with the running of the Museum get free entry on Event Days. Other members who come to the Museum on Event Days are required to pay admission albeit at a ‘discount’ rate. This is due to a Charity Commissioners requirement that members do not receive benefits in kind greater than a proportion of their annual membership subscription.
