Omnibus 153 - August 2003

Annual General Meeting

BaMMOT's Annual General Meeting was held at the Museum on Saturday 21 June 2003.

Two significant developments, namely the Trust's purchase of the Museum site's freehold and the granting of planning permission for new buildings, had followed shortly after the last AGM, as reported in Omnibus at the time. In the intervening months, the Trustees had seemingly been "buried in paperwork" with the details of new buildings, the pursuit of funding, and the new responsibilities arising from Registered Museum status. In addition, the Disability Discrimination Act would require the Museum to improve or install certain facilities within the next few months. In order to attract substantial funding – for instance from the Heritage Lottery Fund – the emphasis on any new display hall must be the display, rather than just providing more undercover accommodation for the Museum's collection of vehicles. There then arose the question of whether to tackle the developments as one large project, or in several phases, the latter course having been adopted after much consideration. It is perhaps significant that BaMMOT has not added a single bus to its collection during the past year, while the electric vehicles collection had grown by only one truck.

Members present had the opportunity to quiz the Trustees after the formal reports.

Copies of principal AGM documents will be available to BaMMOT members in due course.
