Omnibus 138 - November 2000

RALLY ROUND-UP & BARNSLEY VISIT

Kidderminster Road/Rail Rally
The 8th of October saw the annual Road/Rail rally at Kidderminster come round once more. It had been agreed earlier in the year that the museum would be represented at the rally, so on the day three museum vehicles, EHA 767 D - S17, 6545 HA - S16 and UHA 981H - S23 proceeded to Kidderminster. A number of members travelled with the vehicles as the trip had been advertised in the last 'Omnibus' magazine.

In what seemed a mass exodus from the museum, a number of private owner vehicles also attended the rally.:

CYP 207 – 1107 - Daimler COG 5
JOJ 533 – 2533 – Guy Arab
JXW 290 W - Leyland Atlantean
OJD 903 R - Leyland National
UHS 963 H - BMMO S23
WN0 864 H - Bristol RELL6G

The day went very well although around 3,30 p.m. we had to endure a downpour of rain. The Severn Valley Railway, although it was widely known about their difficulties with their steam locomotives, managed to put four steam locomotives in service plus a class 50 diesel electric locomotive.

The rally was reported In the trade magazine 'Bus and Coach' with a write up and a number of photographs of the visiting vehicles including the museums BMMOs S16,S17 and S23

All arrived back at the museum safely and agreed it had been a good day.

Stourbridge Rally Report
On October 21st / 22nd the Stourbridge Navigation Trust held their annual canal boat rally at the bonded warehouse. The Museum attended the rally with some of its finest exhibits. These were Roger Hodson’s Fleetline JOV613P, James Munro’s and Ray Ward’s Leyland Atlantean JKW290W, Stourbridge S23 Group’s UHA963H, BMMO S23 5981 and BMMO S16 6545HA. Also on the BaMMOT line-up was the ‘Bostin Austin’ car collection.

A good time was had by all and we hope to be attending the event next year.

Barnsley Visit
In August 2000 James Munro and Ray Ward (1790 group) escaped the West Midlands for a trip up north to visit the Barnsley scrap yards.

First yard visited was PVS where a number of seats were obtained for South Yorkshire Atlantean 1790. Further investigation around the yard found some ex-WMPTE Fleetlines, latterly with Andrew’s of Sheffield, where an air door ram for 6311 was acquired.

Tommy Goodwin’s yard was overflowing with all types of vehicles. This was where we found a large number of parts. A number of original parts are required for the Museums metrobus BOK 1V (2001). When on site we managed to strip a number of sister vehicles for original seat backs and the original rear window and frame. Some seats were also found for Andy Walcott’s London Leyland National. Many small electrical and mechanical parts were also obtained on this visit.
