News Release - 19th May 2006
All Aboard at The Transport Museum, Wythall
The Transport Museum, Wythall is once again revving up for the Bank Holiday Weekend as it prepares to welcome hundreds of visitors to its Chapel Lane site.
Sunday 28th May is an Operating Day when visitors of all ages will be able to take a trip into the surrounding countryside on classic buses,
beautifully restored to their original glory. The Museum’s collection of around 100 buses, coaches, and battery electric vehicles from all over the Midlands and beyond will also be on show.
In addition, the Elmdon Model Engineering Society will be offering rides around the grounds on the delightful miniature steam railway.
And there’s a real treat in store for transport enthusiasts and families alike
on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May, Two Museums Day. Every half-hour throughout the day, the classic buses link the Wythall Museum, right across Birmingham,
with the Aston Manor Road Transport Museum - giving visitors the chance to see a variety of road transport vehicles including delivery vans, factory ambulance, pick-up trucks, coaches, and of course, buses. And back at Wythall,
there will be a marvellous display of model buses, courtesy of the Model Bus Federation, to complement the full size vehicles, as well as the resident miniature steam railway.
Also letting off some steam will be The Elmdon Model Engineering Society, builders and operators
of the Miniature Steam Railway, another family attraction at the Museum in
Chapel Lane, Wythall, with rides available throughout the day.
“Two Museums Day proves really popular every year and this year’s event should be no exception.
Our Operating Days bring back the sounds and atmosphere of public transport from years gone by and are enjoyed by everyone, young and old” says Malcolm Keeley, Collections Manager and a Trustee of the Museum.
“This will be our last event weekend before building work commences here at the Museum, though our collections will still open to the public every Saturday and Sunday”.
