Million Passenger Midland Red Recalled at The Transport Museum, Wythall
The memories are sure to come flooding back later this month when The Transport Museum, Wythall concludes its centenary celebrations of the Midland Red bus company.
It was a 100 years ago this month that the iconic bus operator and manufacturer actually began operating. To mark the occasion, the Museum will be staging a "Midland Red in Action" day on Sunday 31st July from 11am until 5pm at its Chapel Lane site.
The main yard will become a country bus depot and visitors of all ages will be able to take a trip into the surrounding countryside on classic buses, beautifully restored to their original glory.
"The company carried a million passengers a day and was so big it was able to design and build its own buses. They were frequently ahead of the big manufacturers and well-respected in the bus business" says Malcolm Keeley, Collections Manager and a Trustee of the Museum.
As well as the Museum's collection of around 100 buses, coaches, and battery electric vehicles from all over the Midlands and beyond, there will be photographic displays and showings of superb films produced in house by Midland Red.
The Elmdon Model Engineering Society will also be offering rides around the grounds on the delightful miniature steam railway.
