 The Future

Having spent the 1980s developing the site to protect the growing vehicle collection and the 1990s consolidating that collection, the new century has seen the museum securing the long-term future. To this end, Registered Museum status has been gained and the freehold of the site obtained - a most important and reassuring step forward.

Work is now returning to the building stock. This is partly due to the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act; the Museum recently had a Disability Audit undertaken to ensure it was aware of all the Act's requirements.

The constant improvement of the collection means more vehicles now need to be kept inside than we have room for. We have completed the construction of a large spares building to avoid spares being spread all around the site.

In July 2005 the Musuem was awarded just over £900,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for the construction of a new vehicle hall. This project was completed in May 2007. Click here for further details.
